There are several organisations participating in the clean-up of the Umgeni River:
- WWF (the Worldwide Fund for Nature) has an extensive wattle removal program that was underway between 2014 and 2016, with a follow up program extending to the end of 2018.
- NFFC (The Natal Fly Fishers Club) has been holding work parties on participating farms , clearing the banks, between 2014 and 2016, and again with #BRU2 thereafter
- Dargle Conservancy has done work on a lower tributary and plans to extend this to the main Umgeni River
- DUCT (Duzi Umgeni Conservation Trust) has done much work lower down, but actively participates in education and awareness . DUCT has since come on board with extensive help and work from 2017.
